TRIO 30th ANNIVERSARY
トリオ・ジャズ 30周年記念
2013年5月に行われました、キース・ジャレット・トリオ（キース曰く「トリオ・ジャズ」）の東京・大阪での公演に際し、プログラムに3人が互いへ寄せたメッセージです。
When Jack, Gary and I recorded our first “Standards” album back in 1983, I had no idea we were being enlisted (by some force around us?) to embark on a 30-year excursion into the heart of jazz and its many environments: standard song-form, abstract free music, vamps of many colors, etc.
振り返って見れば、ジャック、ゲイリー、そして僕の3人で、最初の「スタンダーズ」アルバムを収録したのが、1983年です。その時僕は、全く意識していませんでしたが、あれが僕達の航海の始まりでした（誰かさんに船に「ノせられた」のかも？）。それから30年間、僕達はジャズの真髄と、それを取り巻く多くのこと（AABAやコーラスフォーマット等ごく基本的な曲の作り方から、難しいフリー形式、即興で作ってゆくリズムフレーズの多彩さ）を求め続けています。
And since we started on the basis of not pre-arranging anything, we have remained free of the closed-in concept of “our music.” There is no way to explain the depth that we've found together over the years in the traditional jazz rhythm section format, but we have built a library of releases and played hundreds of concerts that represent the result better than anything I can say.
そして、活動開始当初からの前提として、演奏に先立ってのアレンジは一切せず、「これが自分達の音楽」などという、押し込めてしまうようなコンセプトは、全く持たないようにしています。伝統的なジャズのリズムセクションの根底にあるものが、どういうものなのか？僕達が何年もかけてたどり着いた結論は、言葉や文字で説明する方法はない、ということです。その代わり、僕達はこれまで、数多くのCDやレコードを皆様にお届けし、そして数多くのコンサートを開かせて頂きましたが、これこそ、僕がどんな説明をするよりも、何よりの答えとなっていると思います。
But what I appreciate about the trio the most is the ease and grace with which we have accomplished this. I don't mean it was easy, but if you remember that every time we played we were doing our absolute best, our reward was compatible with the effort we made.
でも、これを成し遂げることができているのは、何よりも、このトリオの持つ、居心地の良さと、互いへの思いやりの心のお陰です。安直さなどは、カケラもありません。僕達はどんな時も、全てを出し切って演奏してきました。そう思っていただければ、「成し遂げ」たのは、僕達なりに努力をしたから、とご理解いただけると思います。
And from the first note in 1983, our guiding principles have never changed. In this sense, I don't think we have any competition.
そのように僕達を導くものが、1983年に1発目の音を発して以来、一切変わらずにいる。そういった意味で、僕達3人の間には、「お互い張り合う」など、微塵もないと思っています。

そのことに、懸命に打ち込んでこれたのも、ジャック、ゲイリー、君達が居てくれたからこそです。ありがとうね。
A consistent and ever deepening journey into the heart of jazz ... truly authentic, inspiring. A genuine opportunity to surrender to the music at hand with boundless joy and enthusiasm. This continues to be my experience with the Trio.
ジャズの真髄を求めて、ブレず、そしてどこまでも深く、この「航海」は本当に…自分を含め、あらゆるものの本来の姿と向き合う、心震えるものです。こだわりを捨てて、全てに、喜び、そして情熱を掻き立てられる、その思いを常に抱いて、手当たり次第に音楽に身を委ねる。これは「好機」としか言いようがありません。これこそが、「トリオ」を通して、今なお、私の「心技体」となり続けているものなのです。

When Keith, Gary and I came together as a trio, we never imagined we would still be playing this great music for 30 years.
キースとゲイリー、そして私の3人で、トリオを結成した時は、まさか30年も、こんなに素晴らしい音楽活動ができることになるとは、3人共夢にも思っていませんでした。
Every time we get together we learn something new about how to play a standard, ballads & open improvisations.
集まって演奏する、そのたびごとに、私達は新たな学びを得て、スタンダード・ソング、バラード、それにオープン・インプロヴィゼーションに取り組んでいるのです。
There have been some truly amazing and magical moments over the years.
これぞ、至福の喜びと、至福の驚きに満ちた年月（としつき）です。
Playing with Keith and Gary has been one of the highlights of my life and I am very grateful for this.
キースとゲイリーとの演奏活動は、私の人生でいちばん大切な出来事の一つであり、本当に感謝しかありません。
